Copacabana Beach
Copacabana Beach is a beach with a whole lot of variety. The beach spans 4km, and is definitely filled with different cultures and communities. As noticed, all different “groups” claim and stake out a section of sand land from the beach. Young and upcoming soccer players hold court near Rua Santa Clara, where “Postos” 5 and 6 are a diverse group. This group are a mix of favela kids and native Rio de Janeiro (carioca) retirees. As you go north, the craziness dials down and there are certainly not as many people. This is the home to Leme residents, and kids from the nearby favelas. Going up and down the beach, rest the bright and colorful community. Beach vendors, soccer players, tickets to shows and lots of tourist traps! Copacabana beach isn’t the safest and definitely sketchy especially on the weekends when locals are away but it is definitely worth checking out.
